my friend bought a car and she bought it as is?

Ayesha Genova: I agree with Lydia; your friend should have had the car checked by an off-lot mechanic. The Lemon Laws are different in each state; I suggest your friend check this web site:http://www.carlemon.com/to see if she has any recourse.

Sibyl Siwik: Sad to say AS IS is AS IS... Bring the car back to the seller and maybe he will have a heart but I have a feeling he knew exactly what he was doing.

Jacques Teri: Nope. That's what "as is" means. She should have had it checked by a mechanic before she bought it.

Ramona Pago: it was bought at a dealer as is

Leisa Brodnex: was it bought at a dealer or private?

Colby Millberg: Not sure, but probably not because she bought it AS IS, which means if there is anything wrong with it you are responsible, but because it is a dealership and if the car is the same make that they sell there, and depending on the year of the car, THE car manufactorer might help, their number is in the owners manual! guide in the back pages.......But also there is something in the law that says you have 3 days to return it, I don't know all of the details of the 3 day law.....CHECK WITH A LAWYER....ASAP..........Show more

Filiberto Amauty: Lemon laws only apply to new cars, not used cars. She could go back to the dealer and plead her case but the dealer has no obligation to help her since the car was sold "as-is" which means the buyer is acknowledging they understand the condition of the car and are willing to buy it anyway. This is why it is so important to get a mechanic's inspection on used car BEFORE they are purchased.

Maynard Reevers: Dealers sell cars.Smart consumers know what they are buying into before signing the papers. Now what's the real question as she has no legal leg to stand on?

Darrin Hixenbaugh: Lemon laws protect the buyers of NEW cars from serious, recurring defects. There is no protection under the lemon law for a used car sold "as is". Your frien! d had the opportunity to inspect the car before she bought it,! that is the only protection when buying a used car.Oh, and there's no such thing as the "3-day law" when buying a car, new or used. That's a myth.
